I'm starting up a short comic that I'll be attempting to get up and publishable in the next few days (when time is allowed aside from Dead State). I wanted to post a rough so that people could get a general idea of what I'm working on. It's not in my typical "Europop" (a term my artwork has been given several times, not my own words) style; it has more of an anime-influence.

I'm allowing the artwork precedence over any storyline, and it's been a fairly comfortable transition. Thus far, it's about a samurai who lost a leg to the king of hell. Fun, right?

The facial expression on the image above is a bit weird, so my apologies. I have to change it to suit the material. It was originally of the character blowing a kiss, but the subject matter changed pretty dramatically.

Guh, no idea why shit is underlined. DAMN YOU, TECHNOLOGY, AND YOUR MYSTERIOUS WAYS.

I wanted to show some detail work on the face. The entire piece has thus far been done with one brush, which I've repeatedly used to create a faux-oils texture. That's why I've opted to keep some of the brushstrokes a little more obvious.

This lady was something I tried to scribble up about seven months ago, but lacked the skills to complete. This time, however, I think she'll do just fine. WIP, but I hope to be done by the end of the weekend.

It's been ages since I've posted. However, today, I've got a crazy "art boner", as I often like to put it, and feel like posting some stuff I've been working on.

Using brush presents recommended by Loish (Lois Van Baarle) of deviantart, I created this little piece in about 20 minutes. It's still in progress, obviously.

Here are a few several-minute sketches that I've worked on in Photoshop. I'll be making more, and developing several of these. They're all quick drawings done without reference, and haven't really undergone any cleanup.

More concepting

One of the few pieces of concept work involving more solid lines. This first piece was based on a fellow artist friend, Jay Bakke. The character bears his first name.
The second image are some developments in creating a monster from the same comic. The character has a broken neck, and so I was trying to find creative ways for her to support her head. Thus far, I'm liking the idea of having her carry it by pulling her hair. It's the most dramatic approach. :)

New concepting work!

Working through a series of faces and bodies to find the right ones. This face in the very first in a series of attempts to create the storyline's obligatory "pretty boy". However, it's Western-oriented, so he had to look a bit more ruggedly masculine. I didn't even plot his face out when I drew him down, and so his features aren't even aligned properly. His left eye appears to be wandering away. :)
Beside that is a more solid photoshop file of a color variation for another character.

I've been working on some promotional posters for several things I'm trying to get set up, but this is one of the best I've done so far. Tell me what you think!

I've chosen to put up a few images today. The very first, placed to the right, was once pretentiously titled "Dream in Kimono Folds", and was hosted in a school gallery exhibit. It was done on rather thin paper, and was colored with Prismacolor colored pencils. They're still one of my favorite mediums to use. They're surprisingly good at creating a faux-paint look, especially if you use them hard enough to put a grain in the paper. Looking back, there are a few areas I'd like to touch up, and inevitably will later on. This is my good friend Tori's favorite piece of my work thus far. She and I will be doing a comic together soon. More updates on that when the artwork becomes a bit more solid.
